Born April 30, 1932 in Gifu Prefecture, Chikuma Keidō (Chikuma Sōyū) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kaneyasu Tōdō and Asada Ryūdō and began teaching in 1955. He was a member of branch #314 of the Nihon Chikudō Gakkan, the Tokai Kinko Renmei, and the Gifu Kinko-kai.
