Adachi Chizan (Adachi Ryō) was born February 14, 1926. A graduate of Kyoto University, he studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Morita Ranzan (a student of Kanamori Kōzan), attaining the rank of Dai-Shihan and the title Chikurin-ken. He served as a Tozan-ryū Gaku-kai Council member and was once appointed as a Shihan examination committee member and twice Jun-Shihan examination committee member.
