Ishigaki Seizan II has been familiar with Japanese music since he was a child, and studied shakuhachi under his father, Ishigaki Seizan I, as well as the Living National Treasure Yamamoto Hōzan.
His father passed away in 2002.
After performing in countries such as Australia, Argentina and Poland and receiving high praise, he passed the Tozan-ryū master exam with the highest marks and inherited his father's name, Seizan.
He has performed as a soloist with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and with numerous other ensembles.
He has performed in over 30 countries to date. He has also performed with many famous artists, including Tatsuya Ishii, Ayaka Hirahara, Yukihide Takekawa, Fuyumi Sakamoto, Yuki Koyanagi, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, and Yasuko Otani.
His recording achievements to date are wide-ranging, including TV, anime, film, stage, and game music.
In addition to performing at various concerts and live events, he also appears on TV and radio and performs at school concerts.
He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Music, Department of Traditional Japanese Music, and the NHK School for the Training of Traditional Japanese Music Performers. He is a master teacher of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gakukai.
