Shakuhachi
Born Araki Atsumu in Tokyo. Took the name Baikyoku (in 1923). Graduated from Waseda Jitsugyo and Tōyō Music School. In addition to shakuhachi, he studied gagaku, western music, sangen and koto. After the death of Kodō III, he assumed the name Kodō IV. A promising performer from youth, he died prematurely at the age of 40.
