Asakura Toraho (Asakura Shunzō) was born March 20, 1905 in Fukushima Prefecture. He studied Chikuho-ryū shakuhachi under Ōtsuki Ryūho and started teaching in 1929. He belonged to the Ryūmei-kai and was an active teacher and performer for more than 40 years
