Born January 16, 1928 in Niigata Prefecture, Itō Ryūfū (Itō Tatsuo) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Arima Kōfū, Satō Seibi, and Sekidan Toshio. He was secretary of the Niigata Prefecture branch of the Bifū-kai.
