Akiyama Itsusai (Akiyama Keikichi) was born September 11, 1904 in Yamanashi Prefecture. He studied Itsudō-ha Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ikeda Itsuren. He started teaching in 1959 and was a member of the Shakuhachi Itsuren-kai.
