Shakuhachi
Izumi Hōzan (Izumi Jun’nosuke) was born January 12, 1931. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Tomii Shunzan, achieving the rank of Dai-Shihan (grand Master) as well as the title, Chikurin-ken, the highest recognition bestowed on members of the Tozan-ryū. He served as a member of the Shihan and Jun-Shihan Examination Committees, and the chief of the Kyoto City branch of the Tozan-ryū. He was also elected as Chair of the executive committee for the Tozan-ryū 100th anniversary national convention.
