Tanaka Takafumi graduated from the Faculty of Sociology at Kansai University. In 1987, he launched the monthly magazine “Hōgaku Journal.” From 1999 to 2005, he opened Japan’s first live house specializing in Japanese music, “Hōgaku Journal Club Waon.” From 2001 to 2010, he planned and produced the largest comprehensive event in the Japanese music world, “Japan’s Sound Festival.” From 2004 to 2007, he published the monthly information magazine “Bachibachi” for Tsugaru shamisen and taiko. From 2006 to 2010, he produced “Hōgaku: New Sounds of Japan,” a related performance at the arts trade fair “APAP” in New York, and gave lectures (sponsored by the Japan Foundation). From 2006 to 2018, he founded the Hōgaku Association and published the monthly paper “Wagakki Bunka” for the Japanese musical instrument industry. In 2010, he co-produced the “Space Koto” with Ogawa Musical Instruments, which astronaut YAMAZAKI Naoko played on the International Space Station. He organized and produced the International Shakuhachi Competition in Kyoto in May 2012, in London in August 2018, in Wakayama in November 2021, and in Suzhou (online) in August 2022.
